About Our Florist Shop

The Tamar Valley Rose Shop is a division of Tamar Valley Roses Pty Ltd (ABN 92 009 577 235). Tamar Valley Roses, is a renowned family owned and operated commercial cut flower rose growing operation, that was established at Rosevears in 1978. Started by Peter and Helen Lee, Tamar Valley Roses began as flower growers and wholesalers of a number of flower crops, before specialising in roses.

In 1985 Peter became the Australian cut flower agent for the French rose breeding company of Meilland, famous for such roses as Peace and Papa Meilland. This special relationship with Meilland of France allows The Tamar Valley Rose Shop to be the first stores (and of course our customers) within Australia to see and trial at home the new trends and fashions within the cut flower rose scene.

Tamar Valley Roses opened its first florist shop (The Tamar Valley Rose Shop) at 44 St John St Launceston, in November of 1998. The shop was opened by Peter and Helen's daughter Megan, who after completing her four year floristry apprenticeship through Box Hill College of TAFE in Melbourne (and winning Apprentice of the Year in Floristry both in Tasmania and Victoria) decided to rejoin the family cut flower rose growing business, by vertically integrating the growing and wholesaling side with a retail division.

Over the next few years, Andrew, (Peter and Helen's son) also returned to the family business after completing his PhD in science at the University of Tasmania, taking over the role of farm manager.

The Mowbray store of The Tamar Valley Rose Shop was opened in July of 2002, after purchasing and moving an existing shop (the Mowbray Floral Centre) to a larger and better equiped retail store on the eastern side of Invermay Rd. This bigger store enabled more large custom work, such as funeral arrangements and corporate work to be done with much more ease in a larger store than the city.

The third store at Legana Shopping Centre, was opened in May of 2013, and  closed in December of 2018 and the business was moved back to the farm at Craythorne Rd. We are now in the midst of establishing a 'farm shop' where flowers grown at the farm can be purchased directly at the farm gate.

After 18 1/2 years we closed the Mowbray store in late January 2021, to be able to concentrate on our bigger and better shop at 48 St John St, which we moved into in mid 2020. The new shop has proven to be a great success with more space and an updated modern look, providing customers with more choice, including indoor plants.

Over the last 20 years extensive renovations and expansion at the farm at Rosevears have made Tamar Valley Roses one of the leaders in the cut flower industry within Tasmania and Australia.

We, the Lee family and our wonderful staff, love what we do and we look forward to supplying you and your loved ones, with beautiful roses and beautiful flowers, of all descriptions, for all occasions.
